When it comes to beautiful beaches, the Balearic Islands Spain is always worth a mention, which is why many tourists come to spend holidays in the Balearic Islands all year round. Aside from providing plenty of opportunities to soak up the sun and the sand, though, the archipelago has a variety of other activities to offer, too, for a truly enjoyable vacation.

The island of Majorca, also known as Mallorca, offers many activities since it is the largest of the Balearic Islands. While there, you can take a leisurely stroll through Mondrago Natural Park while admiring the stunning scenery or the abundant orchids. The park is most popular for its bird population, though. In fact, it has earned the status of being an 'Area of Special Protection for Birds', so don't forget to get your binoculars so you can try to catch a glimpse of some rare bird species.

While in Majorca, you can also tour many other attractions. These include gothic castles such as the Capdepera Castle and the Bellver Castle, which also houses the Palma History Museum; religious buildings such as the Royal Monastery of Valldemossa and the Palma Cathedral; and interesting museums like the Can Planes Museum and the Marti Vicenc Museum.

There are many things you can do in Minorca, too, which is the island right beside Majorca. Watching a horse show at the Club Escola Menorquina or Ganaderia Son Martorellet is recommended, where you can see the Menorcan horses perform their own style of dressage. These purebred black horses are the pride of Minorca. You can watch horse races on the island, too.

You can also enjoy a lesson in prehistory and archaeology in Minorca by visiting the settlements of Talati de Dalt, Torre Llafuda and Trepuco. These prehistoric settlements date back to the Talayotic period, from 800 to 400 BC, and are noted worldwide for their megalithic structures.

The island of Formentera, the smallest and southernmost of the Balearic Islands, also has its own archaeological treasures. In fact, the most remarkable megalithic tomb in the archipelago can be found on this island - Ca na Costa. You can also ride a bicycle from Sant Ferran to the lighthouse at Sa Mola while enjoying breathtaking views on your holidays in the Balearic Islands.

Finally, a trip to the Balearic Islands is not complete without stopping by Ibiza, which is often referred to as the clubbing capital of the world. Indeed, the island is known for having some of the world's best clubs, including Es Paradis, Amnesia, Space and Privilege, which is also the largest club in the world. If you prefer something quieter, you can also watch a concert or a theatrical production on the island.

The cuisine of the Balearic Islands is world-renowned, too, so make sure you eat well during your holidays in the Balearic Islands. Try to schedule your visit during a festival, as well, so you can participate in the lively atmosphere and the rich culture. This way, you will surely end up with a more enriching experience and a more memorable vacation.
