Have you ever come home to find your door ajar, your house in disarray and your belongings stolen? Have you ever tried to sleep comfortably after being the victim of a home invasion? And after a burglary, have you tried to convince yourself that your family and belongings are safe?

Have you ever come home to find your door ajar, your house in disarray and your belongings stolen? Have you ever tried to sleep comfortably after being the victim of a home invasion? And after a burglary, have you tried to convince yourself that your family and belongings are safe?

To avoid experiencing this horrifying ordeal, install a home alarm system. Not only will it give you peace of mind and a feeling of safety for your family, but it can get another criminal off the streets and out of your neighborhood. You do not have to watch local news for long before you hear about a home invasion that ends in a rape or a death - in a family changed forever.

FBI statistics report that almost 250,000 homes were robbed in 2008 -2 percent higher than 2007 and close to 6 percent higher than 1999. Most invasions are forcible entries, but many enter because the homeowner lets them in because the criminal poses as a police officer or some other normally trustworthy citizen to get into the house. In 2008 $4.6 billion of property was stolen by criminals invading homes and business properties. By installing an alarm, it will reduce your chance of being a victim of an horrific crime.

Use common sense when allowing strangers in to your home - do not answer the door to anyone and be prepared to activate the alarm if you feel threatened. Keep your home alarm on in the day time and the night time. You are never too busy to spend a few seconds setting your alarm.

Every home needs an alarm system. Do not think that your home does not need one because it is in a safe neighborhood or because you do not have enough valuable property. Burglaries can happen anywhere - from suburban, gated neighborhoods to an inner-city apartment complex. And while you might not have the most expensive electronics or belongings, you at least need to keep yourself and your family safe from an attacker.

Most cities and neighborhoods have local alarm installers who can talk with you about price, types of alarm systems (wireless, hardwired, self-contained) and come to your home to give you a quote. Popular national companies include ADT and Broadview Security, but it is worth asking neighbors and friends for recommended local companies, too. The final cost of a system can range from the low hundreds to a few thousand dollars depending on your requirements and needs.

By having an alarm installed in your house, you can protect yourself and your family. You can replace a television, a computer and jewelry, but you can never replace someone's feeling of security after an attack, a rape or home invasion is much, much harder.
