Ask your self this, "Do I have a legitimate excuse to use a hidden camera?" If the answer is yes then by all means buy a hidden camera or spy camera. A legitimate reason is that you suspect your child's babysitter is behaving inappropriately. Have you been coming out in the morning and finding your car all messed up? Is somebody stealing from you at the office. These are all legitimate reasons for using a hidden camera. A big problem with hidden cameras is that too often they are used for less than ethical reasons. Just recently a news story came across my desk about a landlord of an apartment building that had wired four apartments with hidden cameras. He placed them in the bathrooms and bedrooms of the tenants. Thankfully the cameras were accidentally discovered and the landlord was arrested and is in jail. I am sure that is not an isolated instance. One way to make sure you are not a victim of a hidden camera or microphone is to purchase and use a signal detector. They are more commonly known as "Bug Detectors". We have all seen these being used on TV and in the movies. You simply turn the hand held unit on and walk through the room or "sweep" the room. The signal detector picks up the signal transmitted by the hidden camera or microphone and helps you locate its exact position. "Boy, that was so nice of the landlord to leave that nice wall clock in my bedroom. He is such a nice guy." Well, think again. When you do a sweep of your apartment don't be surprised if your bug detector activates when you get close to that wall clock! These days anything you see could be housing a hidden camera. Make sure you do a complete sweep of your apartment. Remember, if you find something, try not to react. Simply leave your apartment and call the police from outside. You don't want your landlord to know that you have just called the cops. If you do want a hidden camera for a good reason, there are many types to choose from. Most hidden cameras are built into everyday items you find around a home such as clocks, radios, thermostats, smoke detectors, lamps, etc. You name it and it could contain a hidden camera. Just make sure you choose an item that "fits in" to your life style so that it does not raise suspicions. If you buy a Tiffany lamp with a spy camera, and all of your other furniture is Modern, you might raise a few eyebrows. Make sure what you get looks like it belongs there. In addition to taking the decor into consideration you have to decide what type of hidden camera you want. There are basically 3 types:1/ Wireless, 2/ Wired, and 3/ Self contained. The wireless hidden camera is installed in an item along with a small transmitter. When a picture or video is being shot the transmitter sends the signal to a receiver. That receiver is then hooked up to a recording unit, a monitor or your TV. Choosing a wired hidden camera is probably the most economical but you have to contend with exposed cords. There will be A/V cords coming out of the device and then they are connected to either your TV or monitor to view the picture or a recorder to record the action. You want an "All-In-One unit? They are readily available. These little guys consist of a small camera AND a recording unit. They record right onto an SD card! It does not get any easier than this. You take the SD card from the unit, plop it into your computer and you can instantly see what the camera has recorded. Make sure you buy a hidden camera that matches your needs. Do you need to record at night time when very little light is available? You better get a low LUX camera. Do you need it to be motion activated? How about a time and date stamp? These are all available and you can find one that fits what you want it to do. Finally, please, make sure you have good reasons to buy a hidden camera. Don't be one of those creepy landlords that winds up in jail. About the Author: To see the wide selection of All-In-One Hidden Cameras visit Jim Wilkinson's website, www.YourGreatestProtection.com.
