Going green, or protecting the environment, is becoming a huge trend nowadays. We all want to save money by reducing electricity, and are constantly asked by companies to opt in to environment friendly programs, like electronic correspondence to cut down on paper waste. The following article will give some ideas for having eco friendly homes, and doing your part to help protect the environment

Energy Efficient Appliances

Most new appliances are made to use less energy than their older counterparts. The amount of electricity and water these machines consume can even be reduced up to fifty percent in some cases. Think about investing in some new appliances. The amount of money you save in electricity will make it end up paying for itself, and you may even be able to get a tax deduction for it. Even little things like light bulbs can be replaced for more energy efficient models. Fluorescent bulbs not only save energy buy are much brighter.

Save Power

There is no shortage of little things you can do that will add up to big savings when it comes to energy and waste. This may be just remembering never to leave lights on in an empty room, or not leaving the water running while brushing your teeth. On a nice day, try to open a window instead of turning on the light, or let some air in from outside before cranking up the air conditioning. Make sure your dishwasher and washing machine are full before turning them on. This may not seem like much, but they will add up, and you will be really helping the environment and your pocketbook.

Using Solar Power

More and more it is becoming possible to easily use solar power for homes. Depending on your home's location in relation to the sun, and what is offered in your area, it may be a viable investment to convert at least partially to solar power. Solar power is completely clean energy and is just as powerful as traditional electricity. It is great for the environment because it is completely natural and creates no waste. Your monthly bill will be greatly reduced because you will only have to pay for maintaining the solar equipment, not the sunlight that powers it.

As you can see, there are many things you can do to make an eco friendly home. Many of them seem small and insignificant, but in time they will add up and you will see a clear difference.
