Fashion is a fickle creature since it changes and is affected by so many factors that a fad can last just a few weeks only to be replaced by another. A quick look back to the wide array of looks that have governed this fickle animal will show a rapid and very different sense of change that tells a lot of the time and the culture to which they belong to. In recent memory, we have come from shoulder pads to metal chains to lighted shirts to throwback fashion in a spin cycle of trends. High school is such a formative part of our lives. We grow and enter the world of adults as we figure out the transition that we make from kid to young adult and the various changes that we undergo. We grow out of cartoon character shirts and develop our aesthetic foundations here. There are many opportunities that this phase offers us in terms of dressing up. From spring formals to graduation, how we remember high school is a string of memorable social functions. We sometimes thumb through the photos of ourselves back then and laugh at how "hideous" we looked in the dresses that did not drape our gangling bodies well. But in those pictures of over dressed versions of our selves, we will see hints of our fashion choices now. If there is one pinnacle that we remember our high school with, it is the prom. In today's more liberated age, the common choice are short prom dresses that leave less to the imagination. We see less cloth used and more slits than we thought possible. Because it is so important, the dress that we choose can define our entire experience. Another social event that happens in our school is the homecoming party. We carefully choose from the many homecoming dresses for that very important night. A night to look back at our past and meet the new and improved versions of our peers. These are just two of the highly aesthetic events that we attend and show two very distinct versions of ourselves. Fashion plays a large role in our lives because it is the visual representation of our taste. Many people may say that the focus we put on aesthetic is shallow and unimportant, but we know better.
