With the way the world gets smaller everyday, it is no wonder when people say that whomsoever controls the Internet, controls the world. Which probably means that Google is our cyber overlord, with upstart Facebook gnawing at its heels. But despite the war for cyberspace dominance, this can't stop you from getting a piece of the pie with a small business Internet marketing business. Unless you want to start with a big business right away, go ahead, but for the sake of this article, let's start with something small. What do I mean when I say small business anyway? Well, just as it is in the physical world, the cyber landscape has a host of business opportunities you can take advantage of. And like in the real world, starting small is ideal. You can start by selling products, services or something you can think of that would sell. You can start big too, though that would mean battling it out with big companies who've been in the business for the longest time. So to start small is ideal. Besides, once your business grows, so too do the opportunities to expand. Now, this is the part where things get real, so it's best to be serious with this part. First thing to do is setup a website where you can handle the selling, payments, downloads and other logistical stuff. As you do this, make sure that your SEO writing skills is up to par. Okay, so what's SEO you might ask? Well, SEO stands for search engine optimization and basically what it does is make sure that your website appears in the search engines. The first page is possible, the first result is preferable. It is what drives Internet marketing so don't mess this up. Basically, what you do is optimize your website, write content to blogs both yours and others as well as to services, do some backlinking, and maybe add a dash of video optimization for good vibes. As you do this, make sure that you follow the rules of netiquette lest you get blacklisted by overlord Google. After a few months, a few weeks if you are lucky, a few days if you are blessed, your site will see a marked increase in traffic. If this happens, your small business Internet marketing gig is ready to roll. Don't overdo the marketing aspect though, even if brings good results, since getting blacklisted will remove you from searches outright.
