Credit card debt is one of the worse debts we can have as consumers. The interest rates on credit cards is one of the highest of all the debts we carry. Credit card debt is a very big problem many people have, especially in the west. Americans alone have credit card debt in the trillions of dollars. Most of this debt is due to consumers not having patience and buying goods they can not afford when they purchase them.

Some of us have gotten into financial hardship due to our use of credit cards, even to the extent of having to file for bankruptcy. We hope you are motivated to eliminate any credit card debt you have once you read this article. There are some very simple rules you can use to eliminate this debt.

However, there is more to paying off credit card debt then just what meets the eye. Here we are talking about the life after you pay off credit card debt successfully. As mentioned before, not everyone is able to pay off their credit card debt. Unfortunately, many people fail too.

You have followed the plan you made or hired a debt-repayment-service, and after some time all your credit card debt is gone. Whatever you did to eliminate the debt continue with the same habits to keep it that debt monkey off your back. Whatever you do, do not fall back into the same habits you had before debt repayment.

So, it's not enough to just pay off your credit card debt. It is equally as important to maintain a debt-free status after you pay off credit card debt; only then can you enjoy a stress-free life in this world of credit cards. Learn your lessons well and do not let yourself loose on the path to another credit card debt.

Most of the rules that you followed when you were trying to pay off credit card debt, will also hold good after you have paid off your credit card debt. Here is a quick synopsis of things that you should take care of even after you pay off credit card debt:

1) Do not overspend. Yielding to the sale offers for something that you don't really need, is a big mistake that leads to overspending.

2) Only charge when you have absolutely no other alternative.

3) Make credit card bill payments in time and in full.

4) Only hold as many cards as is absolutely necessary. You should not need any more than three. Hold credit cards which give you a usable benefit, such as points for travel or other necessities.

Adding these rules, and other rules that work for you, will eliminate stress and you paying any unnecessary interest. It has helped me considerably to not apply for any credit card offers that are mailed to me, although it is tempting to do so. You can use the extra money, you had paid in interest, on other necessities or even luxuries that will add to the quality of your life. Take it from one who has had experience, life after credit card debt is a lot less stressful, costly and the new habits you will acquire are much smarter.
