Vacations are one of the best forms of stress relief. Unfortunately, not everyone can take the vacation of their dreams or liking. Frequently, where or when you go is intertwined with other people's desires as well as your own. A vacation of your choosing is the best stress relief but since I know that is not always going to happen, let me give you some quick tips you can use right now, right where you are. The best stress relief strategy is to not try and completely eliminate all of your stress at once. Instead, begin by making gradual changes through changing habits and gradually working in stress relief strategies that do work. Stress can be relieved in a number of different ways. One way to reduce stress is to change your mind from what it is currently focusing on and making it switch gears. Puzzles are avaialble for young and old alike and are avaialble in many different skill levels. Another good option is gardening. Nothing quite as nice as getting your hands in the earth. Of course, I use gloves to avoid the dirt under the nails. Do something that requires some physical exertion like hacking through the briars, picking berries. Nature offers beautiful things for us to see everyday, but most of the time we are too busy to even notice. Nature is an excellent way to relieve stress. There are several scenes and facets of nature that are highly relaxing, from the sound of a running brook to the crashing of the waves on the rocks to a quiet walk in the woods. Do you think you could add just one simple pleasure to your day? Start a hobby. it doesn't have to be expensive. I started buying little cacti from the local 99 cent store and replanting. Potting soil is pretty cheap as are pots and even if you've never had success before, try a cactus. Really, they're easy to grow and they grow fast and many of them have flowers that bloom. Natural supplemens are available to assist as well. Natural cures can be great alternatives to prescription drugs. They are frequently as good or better but you won't hear that from the big drug companies, they want your money! When is the last time you just relaxed listening to some music of your choice. Not what some radio DJ wants you to hear, but something you really enjoy? When you listen to an old favorite ro the peaceful strains of an accomplished musician, stress can just fall away. You can pick up an instrument on eBay relatively cheaply and experiment. Get something fun and relaxing. I bought a Native American flute that is super easy to play and it sounds very relaxing not to mention it helps my breathing; multiple good benefits. The Bible lets us know that we can make melody in our hearts and speak to ourselves words of blessing. It is true that when you hear yourself speak words of encouragement or peace, it has a very positive effect. Or, pick up a CD with relaxing passages or words of encouragement. Exercise can help with stress relief because it provides a way for the body to release tension and pent-up frustration. Exercise heals the mind and shapes up your body. When you exercise, you can get a boost of confidence knowing you're the best you can be. Laughter is the best medicine. Physiologically the body improves with a state of happiness. Laughter helps you to relax and reduce high levels of anxiety. So keep laughing for stress relief. Really, good honest, clean humor, which admittedly is hard to find, is the best. You've heard the expression, take only photos and leave only footprints? Get out and take some shots-with a camera. Experiment with close-ups of people and flowers and insects. It can be an amazing form of relaxation and stress release. Who knows, maybe you have a hidden talent never discovered. Take time for yourself. Whichever mehtod of stress relief you choose, remember to take or make the time for you to actually do it and reap the benefits.
