It's important to get certified by an association that is respected and accredited. A good place to start is by asking the manager at your gym. They can tell you what certifying agency's graduates they will accept when they hire staff. They will probably give you a short list of five or so organizations that offer personal trainer certification.

The websites of these agencies will provide all the information you will need to narrow your choices down to one. Prerequisite experience, geographical requirements and cost all should be considered. If your health club hires graduates of these programs, you know they offer quality training.

Your personal trainer course will arrive along with instructions for scheduling your exam. Start studying right away. There is a lot to learn before you enter the exam room. You will receive a lot of information about muscles, anatomy and the cardio-vascular system. Fitness coaches have a detailed knowledge of how the body reacts to exercise and how to help a client make progress.

You will need to get CPR training, all certifying agencies require it. Look for training by the Heart Association or other approved organization. You will get practical training that may save the life of a client.

Bring your photo identification and certificate from the CPR course when you go to take your test. If you followed the syllabus, you should have no problem passing the test. This is the first step to become a fitness expert
