Fires can be incredibly destructive to your home, workplace, schools, or just about any place that is flammable. Ideally, we will avoid any and all fires that could come about, but that is not always possible. In the case that a fire does start, there are many precautions you must take. Fires can be incredibly destructive to your home, workplace, schools, or just about any place that is flammable. Ideally, we will avoid any and all fires that could come about, but that is not always possible. In the case that a fire does start, there are many precautions you must take. One of those is the use of fire extinguishers.

You may need to buy a fire extinguisher for any number of locations. Most commonly, you'll need one for your home. It is very important to have a fire extinguisher in your kitchen and near other places that are highly flammable and where fires may occur. You may also need to purchase a fire extinguisher for another building as well. Either way, you'll need to know the different types that are available and you need to choose the best one. There are three different types of fire extinguishers to choose from.

The three main extinguishers available include water, dry chemical, and CO2 extinguishers. Water extinguishers are good for class A fires which are caused by combustible materials that may include paper, wood, and plastics. Dry chemical extinguishers are used for class A, B, and C fires. Class B fires are from gasoline, kerosene, grease, and oil, and Class C fires usually involve electrical equipment.

CO2 extinguishers are used for Class B and Class C fires. These contain carbon dioxide that is highly pressurized. It looks different from the other types because of it doesn't have a pressure gauge and it has a hard horn. Due to the extreme pressure of CO2, often bits of ice fly out of the nozzle when used. Be very careful when you use it. The larger sizes will have a hose and nozzle instead of just a nozzle on the end.

CO2 extinguishers are not good to put out Class A fires. They work by taking away the oxygen from the fire, which the fire needs to keep going. This doesn't work with Class A because it doesn't displace enough oxygen to put out the fire and these fires can reignite. You should use one of the other extinguishers for Class A fires.

The size of CO2 extinguishers can range from 5 lbs. to 100 lbs. Of course, you will choose the size that best fits with the area you need to protect. The cans are red and should have heavy duty metal valves to perform correctly. You can also find rechargeable ones as well. There are many brands and varying weights of extinguishers available to choose from.

When shopping for CO2 extinguishers, what should you look for? Because this device is a safety device, it is important not to go cheap. With a good quality extinguisher, you can be sure it will be safe and ready to use no matter when you need to use it. You must be sure that you are getting top quality and the specific CO2 extinguisher that you purchase must be inspected and have clear instructions labeled for anyone to understand in the case of an emergency.
